HIPOW - Medium Voltage Power Cables

WW HIPOW XLPE insulated medium voltage power cable is subject to very high quality control and accreditation according to IEC 60502, AS/NZS 1429.1,ISO9001, ISO14001, and OHSAS18001. This catalogue represents the specification of our standard XLPE insulated medium voltage power cable. However, we are also able to assist users to design and manufacture special cables tailored to customers' requirements and specifications

Rated voltage designation for three -phase system

Voltage Rating for XLPE medium voltage power cable is expressed in the form Uo/U (Um), the voltage designation takes into consideration the fact that the system voltage may vary up to 9.1% from the designated voltage.

Uo is the R.M.S power frequency voltage between phase conductor and earth conductor of the supply system.
U is the R.M.S power frequency voltage between phases conductor of the supply system.
Um is the maximum R.M.S power frequency voltage between any two phases conductor for which cables are designed. It is the highest voltage that can be sustained under normal operating conditions at any time and at any point in a system. It excludes transient voltage variation due to fault condition and sudden disconnection of large load.

Category A: Systems in which any phase conductor that comes in contact with earth or an earth conductor, is disconnected from the system with 1 min.
Category B: Systems which under fault conditions are operated for a short time with one phase earthed. This period should not exceed 8 hours on any occasion. The total duration of earth faults in any year should not exceed 125 hours.
Category C: Systems do not fall into category A and category B.
-- The system where an earth fault is not automatically and promptly isolated, the extra stresses on the insulation of cable will reduce the life time of the cables. If the system is expected to be operated fairly often with a permanent earth level, WWCABLES strongly recommends classifying the system in Categories C.

The rated voltage of the cable for a given application shall be suitable for the operating condition in the system. The selection of medium voltage power cable shall base on the system voltage rating and earthing.
